Understanding My Power and Agency to Empower The Next Generation

This post was sponsored by Mazda USA, for people who appreciate a premium experience and an abundance of technology and want to stand out from the crowd.

I just finished up a week of speaking engagements and workshops for Hobart and Williams Smith Colleges in Geneva, NY, and High School of Fashion Industries in NYC - in an effort to help the next generation move forward with purpose. This was not my first visit to these schools as I’ve served in varying capacities in the past, but this time was special on so many levels. With the help of a few friends at Mazda USA who have proven to be experts in their own right, my partner and I were able to travel in style with an abundance of technology to deliver a premium experience for students who want to stand out from the crowd.

Mazda’s lineup of award-winning cars and crossover SUVs aren’t for everyone, and that’s okay. They’re for discerning drivers who take satisfaction on Sunday morning drives for the sake of adventure. They’re for people who do a double take back on to their Mazda every time they turn the garage lights off at night.

I spoke to a diverse group of students [about a total of 60 to 80 from both schools] sharing my personal and professional experience on purpose, building your personal brand, and why now is the time to be fearless.

Let me share with you the core message I shared with the students: “Follow your curiosity, chase your passions, play to your strengths and remain authentically you, understanding that you do have power and agency. When you leverage your value [experience and knowledge], there is no limits on your boundaries.”

As a child, I wanted to teach. And today as I reflect on my story and the path I’m creating for myself, I realize that purpose is a pretty powerful force.

One of the students asked me, what was the biggest lessons I’ve learned in my life, my response “that freedom isn’t free.” This is why as a BLACK person who is a WOMAN and an IMMIGRANT I feel the need to use my voice not just to entertain the masses, but to use my knowledge and experience as leverage to raise my voice to speak truth to power. That’s why I started the #FabulouslyFearless initiative. Because the story we tell others, start with the story we tell ourselves. Therefore, our possibilities are either limited or expanded by our thoughts.

I am passionate about engaging minds, encouraging risks, supporting struggle, and cultivating dreams; and so I want to thank the brands and organization that support me, for seeing that I love teaching and not just giving out answers, but is also understanding of needs and challenges, and give tools to help students succeed.

I enjoyed empowering the next generation, equipping them with the knowledge and experience I've acquired over the years, to help them move forward with purpose. Like the Mazda vehicles, my programs are developed with a focus on the details and a human touch for those who want to stand out from the crowd.
