As Breast Cancer Awareness month comes to an end, the importance of raising awareness and screenings remains high on the list for organizations like Share Cancer Support. Breast Cancer is the top cancer among women, and according to World Health Organization, in 2015, it killed over half a million people around the world.

In an effort to create and sustain a supportive community of women affected by breast and ovarian cancers, SHARE Cancer Support is on a mission to empower, educate and advocate to bring about better health care, an improved quality of life, and a cure for these diseases. Prevention isn’t always possible, as breast cancer can be due to a combination of factors. But by being aware of the risk factors, you can promote vigilance in your own life.

SHARE Cancer Support recently brought cancer survivors, their families and friends together for a benefit called Latinas Think Pink. The event which was sponsored by Salud had one clear message to women--”get checked!” Why? Because, some women get breast cancer even with none of the risk factors. Together with UNITED Health Care, The Cancer Screening Program at New York Presbyterian Hospital, Faces Of Strength in conjunction with Hello Beautiful, Vented in Brooklyn, American Italian Cancer.org and Vera Moore Cosmetics provided participants with the opportunity to receive and exchange information, support, and hope.
