I had the pleasure of attending Glambition Beauty Night Out hosted by my girl Dee of DCG Public Relations. And if you missed it, no worries because I've got the scope for you! The event held at Google NYC, was a power get together of beauty experts providing peer-to-peer connection, business leadership, and lots of fun and festivities. Beauty and fashion insiders included Vera Moore of Vera Moore Cosmetics, Jane Carter of Jane Carter Solution, Sarah Perez of SALUD, Dana Hill of Cocotique, and celebrity hair stylist Kim Baker of Glamazon Cosmetics.

Shout out to Plush Vodka for those awesome signature drinks, and Minfo for yet another awesome app downloaded to my smartphone. Part of what makes what I do much fun, are they fantastic perks. As part of the Blogger Round Table, we received swag bags with the latest and greatest in beauty!

But it was the panel on how to build a viable brand that gave us some glorious laughs. These ladies who are #knockingdownwallinheels, shared the power of believing in your ideas, perseverance, staying authentic, and creating value. With that said, here are five key tips shared by beauty hard-knocks.


Key tips from beauty insiders to take your business to the next level.

  1. Trust your intuition, stand in your own truth, and don’t take on more than you can bare.

  2. Be honest with your strengths. Know what you’re not good at, so you can build a team around you that share your vision and can compensate for your weaknesses.

  3. Hone your elevator pitch. If you have a great product/service and you can’t effectively communicate it’s value with power and clarity then you’re dead in the water.

  4. Women entrepreneurs face unique challenges. When compared to men, only 4% of women-owned companies get funded. So keep your day job and use it to self-fund your startup.

  5. Gain access, support and credibility by registering and subscribing to the trade publications and organizations in your industry.
