[Watch] Michelle Obama's Powerful Appeal for Human Decency

The current political climate has been one like no other. And, as I watch this all play out, I couldn't help but sit down and pen my thoughts. As a mother of two beautiful young ladies, I must ask where is the level of discourse? I've been listening to all of this, and I must admit that I can't quite wrap my mind around how this is possible. How is it possible to have a candidate interviewing for the highest office in the land who openly demeans and brags about sexually assaulting women. Worse yet, how is this despicable behavior tolerated, and rationalized?  Not just as a woman, or a mother, as a decent human being, I have a problem with that.Far too often, women are objectified and reduced to just a piece of ass. But, it is even more frightening that a candidate for president, tells women that we are not smart enough, or beautiful enough. But also that he can do whatever he wants with our bodies. And,  because he's entitled and privileged, he simply takes whatever he wants.

As I watched the replay of Michelle Obama's powerful speech this evening, I couldn't help but wrap my arms tightly around my three year old, and think about my eighteen year old. Michelle Obama is right, we're living "a reality that cannot be neglected, that cannot be accepted by anyone who cherishes the American experiment. This is not normal. This is not politics as usual. This is disgraceful. It is intolerable. And it doesn’t matter what party you belong to—Democrat, Republican, independent—no woman deserves to be treated this way. None of us deserves this kind of abuse.”
