Out and About: Latinista Fashion Week Spring 2015
Over the weekend I kicked off my New York Fashion Week schedule with the Latinista Fashion Week spring 2015 event. The two-day extravaganza founded in 2012 by Dee Rivera, a former Latina Magazine editor, started Latinista as a platform to highlight Latina designers during fashion week. My God, it felt great just being at an event that I was not in charge of! LOL. I had the pleasure of hanging with the Moorefabulous clan, and even connected with a new friend Florida Perry Smith, who flew in from Milwaukee - looking forward to lunch when you get back to New York.
Back to the event: Latinista Fashion Week Spring 2015 opened on Friday, January 30th, with a launch party and an exhibit of Cesar Galindo AW 15 Signature Collection at the El Museo del Barrio. Galindo rose to notoriety when supermodel Karen Mulder made the cover of Elle Magazine wearing his silk kimono dress. Today he designs for his own brand, as well for other established labels including Dolce & Gabbana, Calvin Klein, and L.A.M.B.
The event culminated on Saturday, January 31st at the Ogilvy & Mather with an Award segment and Runway Show. The runway show again featured Cesar Galindo, as well as rising designers Milagros Batista and shoe designer Burju Perez. HOOK A SISTER UP BURJU.
The honorees included Guyanese designer Roger Gary, Carlton Jones, and Sydney Schennel receiving the Cesar Galinda Young Designer Latinista award; while president of the NYWCOC Quenia Abreu, INCA Kola CEO Liz Berman, and Mirta De Perales receiving the the Latinista award for their contribution to the industry.
I enjoyed appetizers and the "Latinista Signature Drinks" concocted with J.R Revelry, Bourbon Wiskey, and Inca Kola. I definitely enjoyed the gifting suites and the swag bag filled with awesome swags from sponsors including O.P.I nail products, Vera Moore Cosmetics, Nerium International, Fantasy Fashion Hair (which the models donned on the runway), Mirta De Perales, INCA Kola, and Sothys. After party followed at The Attic Rooftop Lounge NYC. I missed out on that one - had to meet up with a client.
Side note: Look out for the Latinista Signature Drink recipe, OPI 50 Shades of Grey Collection, Nerium Age-Defying Treatment, and Mirta De perales reviews coming soon...
Over all Latinista Fashion Week spring 2015 was a wonderful start to New York fashion week.
