IED Awards 2014 Recap and Runway Spotlights
Yesterday I attended the 2nd Annual IED Awards produced by Glamsense Divas and juSSoul Productions. The Image Entertainment Distinction Awards event took place at the beautiful Galapagos Art Space, a 9,000 square foot Obie and Building Award winning cultural venue located in DUMBO Brooklyn. Though the evening which started off with a star studded red carpet got off to a late start, it made me happy to see everyone come out to support, celebrate and network in the latest fashions as DJ Toni K rocked the house.
Swag bags were sponsored by My Lifestyle Magazine, Vera Moore Cosmetics, Debbie’s Sweet Treat and White Towel Services. As we waited for the award ceremony to get going guests shopped the vendor booths and took in the art showcase on the third floor, while hors d’oeurves catered by Mango and Country Kitchen Restaurants were served on platters. Leading the performances for the night was a musical tribute to pop icon Whitney Houston by Katlyn Nichol who electrified the room with her voice.
The IED awards were hosted by reality TV star Tara Wallace of VH1’s Love & Hip Hop New York and comedian Jonathan Martin. Models worked the runway showcasing colorful, flowy and sexy resort wear from Kahnami Creations; and exotic swimwear from Petals Exclusives. I am sure glad I got started on my weight loss regimen because I need to get beach body ready if I want to rock any of those outfits. See some of my favorite looks below.
The Image awards were the first for the night going to Vera Moore of Vera Moore Cosmetics, celebrity makeup artist Diane Pottinger who accepted via video message, celebrity shoe designer Jiton Greene and celebrity stylist Michael Barnett. The Entertainment awards went to Jamaican actor Paul Campbell, producer Lanny Gee, promoter Derrick Sanders, producer Femi Ojetunde, and NY Giants Mario Manningham who accepted via video message. The last set of awards for the night was the Distinction Awards going to actress and model Melyssa Ford, author Jean Alerte, dentist Dwight E. Williams, business mentor Tani Chambers, and Elizabeth Ortiz of MY Lifestyle Magazine.
Other notable mentions includes Tanya Jackson, niece of Michael Jackson who presented the Humanitarian Award to Jean Alerte. The evening was brought to an end with a performance from the Love Jones Girlz, and a vote of thanks from the event founder diva Madonna herself. Madonna reminded everyone that dreams do come true all you have to do is believe, work hard and infuse it with passion.
Congratulations to all the honorees!!
