Style Trend: Formal Shorts

Joie 'Traveller' Cotton Bermuda Shorts

As I watched VH1's "Single Ladies" this past week I couldn't help but heart Keisha's formal shorts outfit.  Formal shorts is a must have style trend this season, so much so that Pharrell William's couldn't resist wearing one to the Oscars.  They are a great way to maintain that professional edge while drawing some attention to the legs without opting for skirts.

They are great for casual weekend getaways, evenings and even the office.  However, I would recommend a choice of knee length shorts for office wear, if you work in the fashion industry then shorter lengths may do just fine.  Fitted knee length formal shorts works best for formal wear and the standard long line works best for meetings.  Pair your formal shorts with feminine blouse and classic t-shirts or tops that are not too tight, and for an added touch dress them up with cropped tailored blazers.  If your're having a seasonal confusion like us here in New York, you can rock tights under your formal shorts.

I'm really hearting the look, I think I will try it this summer.  When shopping formal shorts bare the following in mind...  contemporary, chic and classic.  As for the choice of  footwear, unless it's heels or sandals it may not be a good fit.

Here are a few of my favorite formal short looks with links to shop.
