NYFW F/W 2014 Day 1: Nicholas K, Marissa Webb, Creatures of the Wind, BCBG and more

Despite the pile up of snow and slush on the New York City streets, as well as the prediction of more snow to come, fashion week is moving full force ahead. Day 1 which is now a wrap, was filled with monochromatic and dark color palettes. It seemed the trend memo was well received as the designers showcased nothing but "relaxed chic" - loose, layered and over-sized collections.

Check out my recap of several presentations...

Nicholas K's collection presented at the Pavillion in Lincoln Center, featured edgy, hip and layered pieces. If you're into the punk look while staying on the trendier side, then check out this collection!

Marissa Webb brought us heavy wool and cotton layered pieces that makes you want to just snuggle up. The models were layered in plaids over tweed skirts and leather jackets. This collection though on the dark side ended on a bright note. If you're looking for some easy functional pieces that will take you from work to play, this is the collection for you.

Creatures of the Wind sent versatile masculine tailored pieces made from a variety of fabrics and mixed patterns down the runway.  Looking for mature pieces that exudes relaxed sophistication, then here is the collection for you.

BCBG Max Azria featured length, geometric styles and colors, with the focus on flowy long dresses, tunics, and furs. The collection demonstrated a mix of several trends that worked very well together. If you're the rebel type that still wants to remain trendy this collection is for you.

And how can I end without reviewing Costella Tagliapietra.  This rather feminine collection was built with sleek separates, some with shiny contrast, some clinged to the body while others hang loosely.
