Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week F/W 2014 NY Pre-Show Overview
The Global Language Monitor's annual survey declared New York  the "Top Global Fashion Capital" beating out Paris - just in time for the beginning of New York Fashion Week Fall 2014. New York Fashion Week which starts unofficially today (officially tomorrow) kicks off the global fashion calendar and seems to be the poster industry event for CHANGE in many ways.
The new Model Law in New York (signed last summer) now recognizes models under the age of 18 as child performers. Giving them the same protection as child actors and has steep guidelines and penalties. This increased regulation will possibly change the faces we see on the New York runways.
Michael Bastian Fall Winter 2014 Menswear
The official Lincoln Center hub is being passed over by designers for new venues.  Alexander Wang's must see presentation will be at the Navy Yard in Brooklyn, Michael Kors at 50 Varick Street and Wendy Nichol at 308 Bowery. Cynthia Rowley will be at the Diamond Horseshoe at the Paramount Hotel and Donna Karen showing at the The Corner in the Financial District at 23 Wall St.
Rachel Zoe will be absent this season to focus on her new baby boy. Jason Wu (made famous by Michele Obama) debuts his collection for Hugo Boss, while Coach makes its debut at NYFW and leading the way is a new creative director and CEO.
To help navigate events, the Council of Fashion Designers (CFDA) has launched a new app, the NYFWList, which organizes all the NYFW events into a user-friendly app for attendees.
